THE PREDICTION
Luis Enrique’s Spanish squad, which has been kept at just 24 men despite being allowed to have 26, come into this in a simply confused state. Since 2012, Spain have been bad. They’ve not got past the round of 16 stage of two World Cups and one Euros and failed to get out of the groups in one of those aforementioned World Cups. However, they have always qualified well until now. Their World Cup qualifiers in March involved a 1-1 draw at home to Greece, going a goal down to Georgia and conceding against Kosovo. A 6-0 win over a hapless Germany aside, this is a fairly average squad with a fairly average set of recent results. They come up against a Portugal team that also continue to flatter to deceive. Their fantastic squad achieved just a round of 16 finish at 2018 but did, somehow, win a Euros in 2016 despite winning just one match in 90 minutes. Therefore, it can be said that Fernando Santos does hold them back. This looks like a match in which both sides could be disjointed and unconvincing so both teams scoring would seem reasonable.
