RB Leipzig took a break from Bundesliga action this past Tuesday night as they hosted Real Madrid in the first-leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie. Despite peppering the visiting goal, the Spanish giants held firm and even hit Leipzig at the other end of the pitch, Brahim Diaz scoring what turned out to be the only goal of the game.
No doubt Marco Rose and his men will have their eye on a second-leg turnaround in Madrid, But until then they must focus on the Bundesliga with Leipzig currently outside the Champions League places, trailing fourth-placed Borussia Dortmund by three points heading into this latest round of fixtures.
BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH
Understandably the reaction wasn’t a good one from Borussia Monchengladbach fans come full time last Saturday. At home to Darmstadt, the minimum expectation would have been victory. But not only did Gerardo Seoane’s side fail to achieve that, they also didn’t manage to score against a backline who have shipped a whopping 49 league goals already this campaign.
Supporters are now questioning both their head coach and this Gladbach team, who are now in 13th-placed, without victory in their last four league fixtures and 11 points adrift of the European places.
