THE PREDICTION

Three wins from their opening four league games represents a fantastic start to the new campaign for Mainz, although their opponents Freiburg sit just one point behind them and are one of only four Bundesliga teams yet to taste defeat in the league. Mainz have impressive from a defensive point of view especially, conceding just two goals across their four games and despite playing at home here, are not expected to take any big risks offensively that could see them punished on the counter attack as they look to maintain stability within their backline to keep Freiburg below them in the table. This should lead to a cagey encounter, with neither wanting to give the three points away and both likely finding it difficult to break their opponents down. With that in mind, it would be no surprise to see this one peter out into a draw, which the two sides would likely accept as a decent result in the context of the season so far.
