THE LOWDOWN

BOCHUM

Back-to-league draws for Bochum leaves them now six points clear of the dreaded bottom three ahead of this latest round of Bundesliga games. With just one win in 2024 so far, that coming against Stuttgart on January 20th, Bochum need to improve results quickly to avoid getting dragged into the relegation picture.

Bero is suspended for Bochum, whilst Esser, Thiede and Tolba are all injured and also miss out. Everyone will need to be on top form to get something against the reigning Bundesliga champions and a good start is absolutely essential, especially at home in front of the Bochum supporters who are likely to fancy an upset when considering Bayern’s recent stuggles.

BAYERN MUNICH

You could argue that it’s been arguably the worst week for a significant number of years on the pitch for Bayern Munich, starting at the BayArea where they were thrashed 3-0 by league leaders and primary 2023-24 title challengers Bayer Leverkusen in what was a masterclass of a performance which left Bayern now five points adrift of Xabi Alonso’s side.

Injuries haven’t helped Bayern’s cause and the ‘Rekordmeister’ could be missing up to nine players for the trip to Bochum. However, if any German club has the resources to cover for this and the strength-in-depth Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel possesses are more than capable of dominating both from an offensive and defensive perspective.

THE PREDICTION

Anything less than a win here and it may well be curtains for Tuchel. The Bayern Munich head coach is in ‘dead man walking’ territory at this stage after this past Wednesday night and more dropped points in the Bundesliga would simply exacerbate matters. Bochum will probably try and replicate the template shown by the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Lazio. However, they don’t boast the same sort of quality and Bayern are expected to beat them, although it may well be another tight one as Bochum bide their time, waiting for their big chance to arrive.

TIP: BAYERN MUNICH TO WIN
