THE PREDICTION

Many will argue that Hoffenheim underachieved domestically last season with their exploits in Europe perhaps taking its toll on them physically and going on to affect their form in the Bundesliga. Without European football to focus on this campaign, Hoffenheim are expected to significantly improve on their 11th-place finish in 2020-21. They’ll be hoping to start with three points vs an Augsburg outfit likely to be fighting against relegation again. However, after keeping them up after being brought in last season following the sacking of Heiko Herrlich, Markus Weinzierl will be hoping his men can kick on. Hoffenheim boast the superior players from an all-round ability perspective, but there is a question mark over whether they can match the spirit and teamwork of the hosts. Neither will want to begin the new season with defeat and it may be a case that the two teams can’t be separated and are forced to settle for a point.
