THE PREDICTION
The last time Werder Bremen competed in 2. Bundesliga was the 1980/81 season which saw them promoted back to the Bundesliga as champions. A full 40 years later and Bremen find themselves back in the second tier of German football with the goal to once again bounce back up as league winners. New head coach Markus Anfang has been tasked with the responsibility and has brought in the likes of 21-year-old centre-back Lukas Mai on loan from Bayern Munich in an attempt to achieve that goal. When assessing the Werder Bremen squad, it would be a surprise if they aren’t among the top three teams come the end of the season and Hannover 96 face a difficult challenge here away from home. Whilst the visitors will look to sit back and frustrate Werder by soaking up pressure with bodies behind the ball, the superiority and strength in depth of Anfang’s side should ultimately emerge victorious in front of their own fans.
