THE LOWDOWN

MONACO

Under the management of former Borussia Monchengladbach boss Adi Hutter, Monaco are enjoying an excellent end to the campaign as they target a top three finish and UEFA Champions League qualification. The Monagasque are finishing the season with a flourish and they are very entertaining with their 31 matches so far this season consisting of 99 goals.

The home team do, though, come into this one on the back of a 3-2 loss to Olympique Lyonnais at Parc OL last weekend with Malick Fofana scoring an 84th minute winner in that game after Wissam Ben Yedder had opened the scoring in the opening minute. That loss followed on from four successive victories.

CLERMONT

With three games left of the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign, Clermont find themselves sitting four points below the relegation playoff place and the teams that are entirely safe. The visitors, though, still under the management of Pascal Gastien, have managed to show some real fight in the last few weeks.

That fight continued last weekend with a 4-1 hammering of Stade de Reims in their most recent outing at Stade Gabriel Montpied. Muhammad Cham scored a 31st minute penalty in that game before Keito Nakamura soon equalised. Cham then notched again before Elba Rashani clinched the game with a late brace.

THE TEAM NEWS

MONACO

There are two injury concerns for this weekend as both Ismail Jakobs and Aleksandr Golovin are unavailable with Eliesse Ben Seghir missing through suspension.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-2-2): Majecki; Vanderson, Maripan, Kehrer, Diatta; Fofana, Zakaria; Akliouche, Minamino; Ben Yedder, Balogun

UNAVAILABLE: Ben Seghir (Suspended), Golovin (Injured), Jakobs (Injured)

CLERMONT

Both Jim Allevinah and Maxime Gonalons are still out injured for this weekend alongside Cheick Oumar Konate, whilst Elba Rashani is out suspended, too.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Diaw; Zeffane, Pelmard, Caufriez, Neto Borges; Magnin, Gastien; Alan Virginius, Cham, Nicholson; Kyei

UNAVAILABLE: Rashani (Suspended), Allevinah (Injured), Gonalons (Injured), Konate (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

As mentioned, Monaco are brilliant to watch. Ligue 1 is one of the lower scoring leagues in terms of Europe’s ‘bigger’ leagues but they have maintained good entertainment value throughout. Clermont, on the other hand, are the lowest scorers but have at least shown some genuine fight in the last month or so that they will aim to replicate at Stade Louis II. Given that, we should have another fun match in store with Monaco the overwhelming favourites, especially with their home advantage.

TIP: MONACO TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
