French Ligue 1 Table – TSZ's Predicted Top Five

As we draw closer to the beginning of the Ligue 1 season and the first round of fixtures, TSZ assesses the main competitors to be crowned French title and those capable of earning qualification for European football. We pinpoint the club expected to finish above the rest and who we think will end up in the top five come next June.

FRENCH LIGUE 1 TOP FIVE

1. PSG

2. Monaco

3. Nice

4. Marseille

5. Lyon

It’s quite boring but PSG, simply, won’t relinquish their grip on the French league title. Mauricio Pochettino is a good coach but struggled to implement a system and approach across his time at the club. Christophe Galtier, the new man in charge, has over and out performed everyone in France over the last couple of seasons and, with a more coherent recruitment strategy, expect PSG to improve on last season’s inconsistencies.

The race for Europe is a fascinating one with only 3 sides qualifying for the UCL and two sides guaranteed of other European slots. Monaco, under the management of Philippe Clement, have added well with Takumi Minamino and Breel Embolo, whilst Nice have also been astute, despite the loss of Galtier. Marseille were PSG’s closest competitor last season but have had to replace Jorge Sampaoli with former Verona coach Igor Tudor. Tudor will implement a similarly fun and aggressive style of play but difficulties in the transfer market could limit OM.
