Hong Kong come into this on the back of a 3-1 defeat to an apparently resurgent Iranian side. That defeat was their first match since 2019 due to COVID and that means they have now lost four matches in a row. They come up against an Iraq side that remain at the top-of-the-group despite Iran’s victory. Iraq overcame Cambodia to win 4-1 as they try and cement top spot and progression into the third round of qualification. Iraq remain unbeaten so will be more than confident of avoiding defeat in this one and the fact they have conceded just three goals in six qualifying matches so far would suggest they will confident of not just the avoidance of defeat but victory as well.
