Southampton suffered a second loss in succession as they were edged in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final against Newcastle earlier in the week. Needing to overturn that one-goal deficit next Tuesday, they may have an eye on that encounter and that could play into the hands of Blackpool. The away side have brought Mick McCarthy in to steer the ship after a string of poor results and he will hope his arrival can have an immediate impact on his players. They have won just one of their last 11 games in all competitions but if Southampton are not fully focused on the task in hand here, the Seasiders can do enough to at least force a replay.
