THE LOWDOWN
ENGLAND
- England put in their most potent performance of the tournament from an attacking perspective in their quarter-final, thrashing Ukraine 4-0 in Rome and will now return to Wembley to contest in their first European Championship semi-final since 1996.
- Captain Harry Kane’s goal against Germany in the round of 16 appears to have restored the England captain’s confidence and he was back to his goalscoring best against Ukraine, netting twice whilst at the other end, England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and his defence celebrated a fifth successive clean sheet since the competition began back in June, a new European Championship record.
- Whilst the Three Lions don’t appear to be carrying any injuries with Bukayo Sako having recovered from a minor injury that saw him miss the Ukraine match, boss Gareth Southgate will need to decide whether to stick to the 4-2-3-1 formation fielded in the quarter-final, or revert to playing three centre-backs, which helped them to topple Germany, with attacking midfielder Jadon Sancho the most likely to drop out of the starting line-up.
DENMARK
- Denmark had to dig deep to overcome Czech Republic in Baku after going two goals in front, but despite conceding they managed to hold on for victory, advancing to the semi-finals of the European Championships for the first time since they won the competition back in 1992.
- Since being afforded a place in the Danish starting line-up, striker Kasper Dolberg continues to shine and his quarter-final goal was his third in Denmark’s last two matches, with the 23-year-old expected to be a key player if they are to overcome England in the semi-finals.
- With no key injuries to contend with, head coach Kasper Hjulmand is likely to name the same team for a third consecutive matches, deploying three central defenders whilst wing-backs Joakim Maehle and Jens Stryger Larsen are both afforded license to roam forward whenever possible.

THE PREDICTION
After easily coming out on top in what was their first EURO 2020 clash to be played outside of London, England return to Wembley for a historic semi-final clash with Denmark. The Danes have fond memories of this ground, having beaten England here only last October in the UEFA Nations League. This match however, is an entirely different kettle of fish. The Three Lions have always shown themselves to be an outstanding defensive unit, but against Ukraine they showed what they can do when on song going forward and the return of captain Harry Kane to form looks ominous for their opponents here. Whilst Denmark will fight with everything they have, it would be a big surprise if England don’t find the net at least once within the 90 minutes against a country who have kept just one clean sheet over the course of their five EURO 2020 matches played so far. When taking this into account alongside the formidable and in-form backline of the Three Lions, Gareth Southgate’s side have to be favoured to come out on top here over 90 minutes.
