Tottenham Hotspur put in an improved performance as they cruised to a comfortable 3-1 win at home to Nottingham Forest in their most recent outing, last weekend. Their star man, Harry Kane, notched a brace to make it 20 goals in the Premier League so far this season. Whilst he remains some way off Erling Haaland on 28, the England captain is enjoying one of his most efficient scoring seasons in England’s top-flight.
KANE’S RECENT FORM
At his current 2022/23 Premier League goal scoring rate, Harry Kane is on course to hit 28 goals this season. That would be his third most prolific season and his best scoring campaign since the 2017/18 season. In the 12 games that Tottenham have played since the return to action after the FIFA World Cup break, Kane has managed eight goals and one assist, marking him among the most effective forwards in the division, as ever. In the first 16 games of this season, Kane failed to score in just four games and went on three runs of scoring in three or more consecutive matches. It could well be that the brace last week in the aforementioned victory against Forest was the start of another hot streak.
KANE VS SAINTS
Harry Kane has started in 14 matches against Southampton in his Premier League career. In those games, he has scored 11 times and provided five assists. His current spell of two games without a goal against The Saints is the longest streak he has gone on against the south coast club – but even then he had a goal harshly disallowed in this fixture at St Mary’s last season.
KANE ON THE ROAD
Harry Kane is already the record away goals goal scorer in Premier League history with 105 goals so far in his career. ‘Gambler’s fallacy’ refers to the incorrect idea that a run of one thing happening constantly will mean it is more likely to not happen the next time, like a coin toss resulting in ‘tails’ five times, therefore ‘heads’ is more likely next time. Well, Kane scoring this weekend is not something that should fall under that term. Given Kane’s incredible record away from home and the fact he is on a current two-match run of not scoring away as well as a two-match run of not scoring against Southampton, he is very much ‘due’ to score at any time in the match and, unlike the 50/50 chances of a toss of a coin, the likelihood of Kane scoring is always strong, especially this season and especially against such a poor Saints side.
