Antonio Conte is once again missing from the dugout for this match as the Italian remained in Italy to recover from his surgery on removing a gallbladder. Tottenham Hotspur were beaten by AC Milan in the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League Last 16 tie during the midweek. Spurs were hammered 4-1 by Leicester City, too, last weekend.
Cristian Stellini will be on the sidelines for Spurs, as he was in their 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester City in the Premier League a couple of weeks ago.
Defensively, Tottenham’s individual players have significantly underperformed, especially both Eric Dier and Cristian Romero. Romero should return to the Premier League starting line-up, though, after being suspended for their trip to the King Power Stadium last weekend. Ben Davies has remained ahead of Clement Lenglet in the pecking order but the Frenchman might well come into the eleven for rotation reasons, after their UEFA Champions League encounter during the midweek.
Pedro Porro had a bit of a horror debut last weekend but the former Sporting wing-back should prove to be an excellent addition to their squad and will still expect to keep his spot ahead of Emerson Royal. Ivan Perisic is Tottenham’s only fit left wing-back with Ryan Sessegnon out injured.
There is a bit of a midfield crisis with both Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma both missing from this match due to injury, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg returning to the team after a knock for himself. Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr both performed impressively at San Siro in midweek with Sarr, in particular, playing well. The two will be vying for a spot in the starting eleven.
Richarlison was also an impressive substitute in that match but he has not yet been able to displace the underperforming and out of form Son Heung-min. Dejan Kulusevski should play alongside Harry Kane in attack and there could well be an opening for Richarlison in their front three, should Stellini and/or conte deem a rest for Son is required.
