THE LOWDOWN

WATFORD

  • Watford’s second match under Claudio Ranieri was an incredible one from their point of view, as they came from 2-1 behind away at Everton in the second half to emerge triumphant by five goals to two, with former Toffees striker Josh King netting hat-trick.
  • Following such an unbelievable victory, it would be a surprise if Ranieri was to tinker with his starting line-up, although he will be without Emmanuel Dennis through suspension alongside Peter Etebo, Francisco Sierralta and Christian Kabasele due to injury, although centre-back Kiko Femenia and could play some part.

SOUTHAMPTON

  • Southampton played out a 2-2 draw with Burnley last weekend, meaning that they remain with just the one Premier League victory this season and the Saints suffered a further blow in midweek after they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on penalties away at Chelsea.
  • Striker Armando Broja, who has found the net in successive Premier League games is out and will likely be replaced by either Adam Armstrong or Che Adams in the starting line-up, however creative midfielder James Ward-Prowse is available following a three-match suspension.

THE PREDICTION

Watford are no doubt riding the crest of a wave after their win at Goodison Park and a fired-up home crowd will be right behind the Hornets as they seek to gain a second successive league victory and a first for Ranieri at home. However, Southampton are not to be underestimated and will be confident of coming out on top themselves having netted at least once in each of their last four matches in all competitions. This could lead to an entertaining affair from an attacking perspective with Watford on the back of having scored five goals in a single fixture. The two teams are likely to prioritise an offensive style of play in this one over defensive stability and both teams to score looks very much on the cards.
