THE LOWDOWN

TOTTENHAM

  • Tottenham may have made it through to fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday by beating Brighton, but when it comes to the Premier League, Antonio Conte’s men are coming off the back of a loss, having been comfortably beaten by local rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge most recently.
  • Defenders Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga will miss out through injury alongside midfielder Oliver Skipp, however both Christian Romero and Heung-Min Son came through the FA Cup win over Brighton and should start again in this one.

SOUTHAMPTON

  • For the second FA Cup round in a row, Southampton needed extra time to get through, this time against Coventry and it remains to be soon how much this will have taken out of the Saints squad ahead of this match.
  • Most worrying from the visitors’ point of view was an injury to Armando Broja against Coventry that could rule him out while centre-back Lyanco, who suffered a serious hamstring injury in the same game, is definitely out.

THE TEAM NEWS

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Lloris; Sanchez, Romero, Davies; Emerson, Winks, Hojbjerg, Reguilon; Moura, Kane, Son

UNAVAILABLE: Dier (Injured), Skipp (Injured), Tanganga (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

SOUTHAMPTON

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Caballero; Livramento, Bednarek, Stephens, Walker-Peters; Elyounoussi, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, S. Armstrong; Redmond, Adams

UNAVAILABLE: Lyanco (Injured), McCarthy (Injured), Tella (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

The extended break from Premier League action came at a good time for Tottenham as it allowed a couple of key players such as Son ample time to fully recover and return to action, using the FA Cup to build their fitness up. Southampton in contrast, lost a couple of players to injury following their cup match, which could well affect them adversely at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Under Antonio Conte, Spurs have been excellent at home in the Premier League, picking up 13 points from a possible 15 since his appointment and their good run looks set to continue here when considering how strong they looked going forward against Brighton this past weekend. Although Southampton won’t make it easy for them, back Tottenham to ultimately emerge victorious.

Tip: TOTTENHAM TO WIN
