THE LOWDOWN

SOUTHAMPTON

  • After a desperately worrying start, Nathan Jones looks to have finally found a winning formula at Southampton, backing up their Carabao Cup triumph over Man City with a priceless 1-2 win away at fellow relegation battlers Everton, which saw the Saints come from behind.
  • It would be no surprise if Jones opts to pick the same starting XI as those who played at Goodison Park, although goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and winger Theo Walcott could both be available for selection.

ASTON VILLA

  • Aston Villa bounced back well following their FA Cup third round humiliation with an important 2-1 victory against Leeds Utd, meaning they have accrued seven points from their last three Premier League games.
  • Leander Dendoncker returns from suspension, whilst left-back Lucas Digne is doubtful following a shoulder injury suffered against the Whites.

THE PREDICTION

These two teams are likely to meet fire with fire at St. Mary’s. Southampton know how vital three points could be in their survival battle and won’t be afraid to take the game to their opponents with home advantage in their favour though. Aston Villa though, are a dangerous offensive unit under Unai Emery, having scored in every game so far under the Spaniard and will surely create chances for themselves against the Saints. Therefore, the smart move would be to back both teams to score, as has been the case in each of Aston Villa’s last three fixtures in all competitions.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
