THE LOWDOWN

NORWICH

  • The man in charge of the football side of things at Norwich is Stuart Webber. Webber said that the last time Norwich were up, he sent Farke into a war with a knife whereas now he’s got a few grenades but they remain looking for their tank. Daniel Farke’s impressive second promotion at Norwich last season will hopefully prove to be the catalyst for Burnley-like bounce back and spell in the top-flight.
  • Impressive business has been done by Norwich with the standout signing being that of Billy Gilmour on loan from Chelsea. Alongside Gilmour’s arrival is that of American international Josh Sargent from Werder Bremen and the very impressive acquisition of Milot Rashica from the same club; the Canaries are attempting to benefit from Bremen’s surprise relegation last season.

LIVERPOOL

  • Last season was a frustrating and weird one for the Reds as Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered from a simply ridiculous amount of injuries. The bulk of the squad looks back and ready to go but Andrew Robertson’s injury in the penultimate pre-season match will be another huge cause of concern for Klopp with Kostas Tsimikas likely to come into the side.
  • A lack of signings has also provoked frustration from many Liverpool supporters but the squad remains deep, if fit, and a title challenge (given their success in recent seasons) must once again be the aim, if unlikely.

THE TEAM NEWS

NORWICH

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Krul; Aarons, Zimmermann, Gibson, Giannoulis; Gilmour, Lees-Melou; Cantwell, Dowell, Rupp; Pukki

UNAVAILABLE: Placheta (Fitness), Byram (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Omobamidele (Illness), Pukki (Fitness)

LIVERPOOL

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Keita, Fabinho, Milner; Mane, Jota, Salah

UNAVAILABLE: Robertson (Injured), Jones (Concussion)

QUESTIONABLE: Henderson (Fitness), Thiago (Fitness)

THE PREDICTION

Norwich will be expected to go better this season than they did last time around when they were relegated at the bottom-of-the-table in 2020. However it is unlikely to be a fast start for the Canaries due to the uncertainty and disruption caused by a COVID-19 breach in the camp. Todd Cantwell’s fitness remains unknown and he could be rushed back for the opener but it is the visitors who will expect to run out as comfortable winners.
