THE LOWDOWN

NORWICH

  • Norwich boss Dean Smith will have been hoping their one-goal win over Charlton in the FA Cup last weekend can be used a springboard for better results in the Premier League, however that was against a League One side and after a 2-0 loss in midweek away at West Ham made it six straight top flight defeats to their name, it’s easy to see why they are favourites to make an immediate return to the Championship.
  • Chelsea loanee Billy Gilmour has returned to his parent club to be assessed regarding an ankle injury that will keep him out of this match and Smith will also definitely be without the services of Andrew Omobamidele, Mathias Normann, Lukas Rupp and Christoph Zimmermann.

EVERTON

  • Rafael Benitez could have been forgiven for fearing the worst last Saturday after his Everton side went 1-0 down to Hull within the first minute of their FA Cup third round tie, however the Toffees responded to ultimately seal a 2-3 win after extra time, which only papers over the cracks established through their abysmal league form.
  • In a welcome boost for Benitez, a number of key players are edging closer to a return with both Yerry Mina and Richarlison having returned to training, although this match is likely to come too soon for them, but Richarlison’s fellow forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin is expected to shake off a quad injury in time to feature at Carrow Road.

UNAVAILABLE: Davies (Injured), Iwobi (International duty)

QUESTIONABLE: Branthwaite (Fitness), Calvert-Lewin (Fitness), Delph (Fitness), Mina (Injured), Richarlison (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

No excuses will be afforded to both the Everton players and management by their supporters at Carrow Road, with three points the minimum requirement despite having won just once in their last 12 Premier League fixtures. They have already beaten Norwich once this season at Goodison Park and are facing a team mentally on the floor and bereft of ideas in front of goal, not scoring in the Premier League since all the way back on November 30th away at ten-man Newcastle. To Everton’s credit, they showed some resilience in their FA Cup tie at Hull to come from behind and are expected to have enough firepower going forward to overcome the toothless Canaries.

Tip: EVERTON TO WIN
