THE LOWDOWN

NEWCASTLE

  • Following a huge upturn in results following the mid-season appointment of Eddie Howe, Newcastle Utd finished 11th-place in the Premier League last season and will no doubt look to push on into the top-half this time round.
  • Jonjo Shelvey and Javier Manquillo both miss out due to groin and hamstring injuries respectively, whilst a calf-strain sidelines full-back Jamal Lewis.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST

  • After a 23-year exile from the Premier League, two-time European Cup winners Nottingham Forest returned to the top flight via last season’s Championship play-offs and with 12 new signings already through the door, the Tricky Trees clearly have every intention of being here to stay.
  • Full-back Omar Richards will not feature in this game as it stands, the 24-year-old full back joined the club from Bayern Munich this summer but is currently nursing an ankle injury and he is joined on the sidelines by vice-captain Ryan Yates.

THE PREDICTION

Unsurprisingly, plenty of optimism surrounds St. James’ Park with fans hoping for further improvement from Newcastle in what will be their first full season under Eddie Howe. A newly promoted Nottingham Forest at home might represent an easier fixture compared to others on paper, but writing off Steve Cooper would be a mistake. The Welshman has established himself as an excellent head coach and has been comprehensively backed by the club’s ownership in the transfer market. However, when taking into account the squad upheaval within the Forest squad, it may take a little time for them to click together and adapt fully to what Cooper wants from them both on and off the ball. With that in mind, consider backing Newcastle to win via the draw no bet market for extra security.

TIP: NEWCASTLE DRAW NO BET
