THE LOWDOWN

MAN UTD

  • Man Utd dropped crucial points in their battle for top four this past Tuesday night, drawing 1-1 away to relegation battlers Burnley, which saw them overtaken in the table by Arsenal two days later.
  • Cristiano Ronaldo was left on the bench at Turf Moor and is expected to come back into the starting line-up for the visit of Southampton, whilst Paul Pogba is likely to keep his place after scoring against the Clarets.

SOUTHAMPTON

  • Southampton caused a huge shock at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in midweek by inflicting a first home Premier League defeat upon Antonio Conte, beating Tottenham 2-3 despite going behind twice.
  • It would be no surprise if Ralph Hasenhuttl names an unchanged side on the back of that victory, although Valentino Livramento stands a good chance of featuring at some point.

THE PREDICTION

Underestimate Southampton at your peril! That should be the message for Man Utd following results in midweek with the Red Devils now under significant pressure having been knocked out of the top four. Playing at home should suit them, but the lack of form within United attack at Old Trafford has to be a concern when considering that they have only scored three goals across their last four in all competitions at home. Fatigue could well prove a detrimental effect to Southampton’s chances in this one with that win against Tottenham likely to have taken a great deal out of their key players from a physical point of view and with Man Utd on the back of an extra rest day and expected to show a reaction following their draw against Burnley, the sensible move would be to back a home win.

Tip: MAN UTD TO WIN
