THE LOWDOWN

MAN UTD

  • Man Utd eased the pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a comprehensive 0-3 victory away at Tottenham last weekend and followed that up with a 2-2 draw against Atalanta in the Champions League
  • Solskjaer faces a central defensive crisis with Raphael Varane out through injury and Victor Lindelof a huge doubt, so Eric Bailly is likely to be afforded a rare Premier League start here.

MAN CITY

  • Defeat at home to Crystal Palace last weekend, a match that saw Man City reduced to ten men, only increases the importance of this Manchester Derby, with three points crucial for them to stay in touch with league leaders Chelsea
  • With centre-back Aymeric Laporte suspended, John Stones is expected to come into the starting line-up, whilst Spaniard Ferran Torres remains out injured and full-back Kyle Walker is a doubt after suffering a heavy kick to the foot in Man City's Champions League victory over Club Brugge in midweek.

THE TEAM NEWS

MAN UTD

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): De Gea; Lindelof, Maguire, Bailly; Wan Bissaka; Fernandes, McTominay, Fred; Cavani, Ronaldo

UNAVAILABLE: Pogba (Suspended), Varane (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Lindelof (Injured)

MAN CITY

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Dias, Cancelo; Bernardo Silva, Gundogan, Rodri; Foden, De Bruyne, Grealish

UNAVAILABLE: Delap (Injured), Laporte (Suspended), Torres (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Walker (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

After being humiliated by fierce rivals Liverpool the last time they played at Old Trafford, Man Utd cannot afford a similar result in front of their own fans against neighbours Man City. The visitors are expected to have more of the ball, but that may well favour Man Utd, who boast plenty of pace going forward that could catch Man City cold. However, the outcome of this contest is likely to rest on the shoulders of Cristiano Ronaldo. The United star has returned to his goalscoring best over the past week, backing up his goal against Tottenham with a magnificent Champions League brace over Atalanta. It would be no surprise to see Ronaldo find the net once again on such a big occasion and backing him to score anytime represents a smart play here.

Tip: CRISTIANO RONALDO TO SCORE ANYTIME
