THE LOWDOWN
MAN CITY
- Manchester City cruised to a 3-0 victory away to Bristol City in the FA Cup fifth round in midweek. However, their title challengers, Arsenal, have now moved five points clear of City at the top-of-the-table with their midweek Premier League win at home to Everton.
- John Stones and Aymeric Laporte have both been training this week and could be available, while Phil Foden’s improved displays of late could see another start for the Englishman, potentially at the expense of Riyad Mahrez.
NEWCASTLE
- Newcastle United’s first cup final this century resulted in a 2-0 loss at Manchester United at Wembley last weekend and The Magpies’ form has drifted quite worryingly throughout the first couple of months of 2023.
- Alexander Isak is pushing for a start should Eddie Howe wish to switch things up in attack, while the Magpies boss has been talking up Anthony Gordon an the former Everton player will be in his thinking here.

THE PREDICTION
Manchester City are no longer a trustworthy side. Many people will automatically believe they are set to go one of their long winning streaks to overthrow Arsenal but there are no real signs of consistency, both in terms of selection of personnel. That being said, though, they now face a Newcastle United side that are lacking goals and form. The visitors, under the management of Eddie Howe, have slipped out of the top four, which was already an over-achievement, and have won just four of their last 12 matches. Three of those victories have come in the EFL Cup with one against Leicester City and two against Southampton. The other win came at home to Fulham with a late winner after The Cottagers had missed a penalty. In those 12 games, they have failed to score on five occasions and have only managed more than one goal in a game on two occasions. Given the hosts’ lack of fluidity at times this season, this may not be a thriller for the neutral but City should come out on top.
TIP: MAN CITY TO WIN & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
