THE LOWDOWN

MAN CITY

  • Manchester City begin this weekend’s round of fixtures, which is the start of the two month Premier League ‘run-in’, eight points back from league leaders Arsenal, who they play towards the end of April.
  • Guardiola failed to confirm whether or not Erling Haaland will be available for the game but did hint at taking a risk on the Norwegian. Phil Foden will be out for a few weeks, though, following surgery on his appendix last weekend.

LIVERPOOL

  • In recent seasons, Liverpool would be City’s closest competitors for the title but this time around The Reds find themselves in a battle just to break into the top four. They currently sit seven points behind Spurs ahead of the weekend, but do have two games in hand on the north Londoners.
  • Luis Diaz has returned to light training but remains unavailable for this match, whilst Darwin Nunez has also returned to training after two or three days out.

THE TEAM NEWS

MAN CITY

PREDICTED XI (3-2-4-1): Ederson; Stones, Dias, Ake; Rodri, Bernardo Silva; Mahrez, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Grealish; Haaland

UNAVAILABLE: Foden (Surgery)

QUESTIONABLE: Haaland (Injured)

LIVERPOOL

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Elliott, Fabinho, Henderson; Salah, Gakpo, Darwin

UNAVAILABLE: Ramsay (Injured), Keita (injured), Bajcetic (Injured), Thiago (Injured), Diaz (Fitness)

QUESTIONABLE: Gomez (Injured), Tsimikas (Injured), Darwin (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Doubts persist over Erling Braut Haaland’s fitness but, despite his ridiculous scoring record in his first season in England, Manchester City did win four of the last five Premier League titles without the Norwegian leading the line. They went into the international break in good form and a continuation of that is expected post-break. Liverpool lost to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in their most recent outing, completing a 6-2 aggregate defeat in the Last 16 of the UEFA Champions League. The Reds have had a really difficult campaign across all competitions and, despite this being between England’s standout teams in recent years, a fairly comfortable home win is expected.

TIP: MAN CITY TO WIN
