THE LOWDOWN

MAN CITY

  • Behind the scenes rumours of dressing room issues are beginning to rise at Manchester City, following the surprise departure of Joao Cancelo. Pep Guardiola’s side were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur again last weekend before the off-field issues of Premier League charges for financial irregularity were made public on Monday.
  • Phil Foden is expected to be involved in some capacity after a bout of illness, while John Stones is the only confirmed absentee in the City ranks.

ASTON VILLA

  • Unai Emery probably endured his worst match as Aston Villa manager last weekend when The Villains were beaten 4-2 at home by Leicester City. It has remained a generally very positive but short tenure for the former Villarreal and Arsenal boss at Villa Park so far, though.
  • Matty Cash could come back into the side at the expense of Ashley Young at right-back, while on the injury front Bertrand Traore is training and long-term absentee Diego Carlos will soon step up his recovery.

THE TEAM NEWS

MAN CITY

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Akanji, Ake, Lewis; De Bruyne, Rodri, Bernardo; Mahrez, Haaland, Grealish

UNAVAILABLE: Stones (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Foden (Illness)

ASTON VILLA

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne; Ramsey, Kamara, Douglas Luiz, Buendia; Bailey, Watkins

UNAVAILABLE: Diego Carlos (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Steer (Injured), Traore (Fitness)

THE PREDICTION

There are serious concerns about Manchester City, on and off the pitch, and yet they still begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting second in the Premier League table. The home team are struggling for fluency in the attacking third with a lot of players limited in their output and attacking numbers as they seek to adjust their entire game plan for Erling Haaland. Aston Villa have been very strong under Unai Emery and despite last week’s blip against Leicester, they will be pushing for a top-half finish. This should be quite an entertaining encounter that the hosts’ come out on top in but Villa have the means to hurt a City defence that have kept just six clean sheets in their 21 Premier League games so far this season.

TIP: MAN CITY TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
