THE LOWDOWN
LIVERPOOL
- Three victories and a draw in their last four matches, with four successive clean sheets, means that Liverpool have moved towards the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots. The Reds remain in unconvincing form, though, in terms of their performances.
- Andy Robertson is likely to come back in at left-back for Kostas Tsimikas, while club captain Jordan Henderson will be hoping for a recall in midfield.
MAN UTD
- Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United followed up their EFL Cup triumph at Wembley last weekend with a come from behind win at home to West Ham. The Red Devils have lost just one of their last 22 matches across all competitions.
- Luke Shaw and Jadon Sancho are likely to be available after missing the midweek FA Cup win, while Erik tan Hag will bring back several of the regulars that he rested for that match.

THE PREDICTION
This is a massively important match. Liverpool are closing in on the top four and could move seven points behind their old enemy. Manchester United, though, are flirting with the possibility of a legitimate title challenge for the first time in over a decade. The visitors’ impressive form in 2023 means they can move eight points behind Arsenal if they continue to keep winning, including their game-in-hand. These are two sides in impressive form but one team, Manchester United, are showing signs of being a rounded unit. For example, Liverpool’s three 2-0 victories have come against an out-of-form Newcastle, who went down to ten men, a poor Everton side and a poor Wolves side at Anfield. Liverpool have troubles defensively, whilst Manchester United have conceded in ten of their last 16 matches. Given that, we could be in for an entertaining derby between these two sides for the first time in a while.
