THE LOWDOWN

LIVERPOOL

  • A terrible 3-0 loss at the hands of Brighton leaves Liverpool all the way down in ninth-place, ten points adrift of the top four going into this latest round of Premier League fixtures.
  • Injuries haven’t helped their cause and the Reds remain without a number of key players, although the expected return of striker Darwin Nunez will be most welcome.

CHELSEA

  • Graham Potter slightly eased the pressure on himself last Sunday as Chelsea recorded an edgy 1-0 victory at home to Crystal Palace, but those three points only seem to paper over the cracks at present.
  • The Blues are set to be without up to ten players for their trip to Anfield, leaving Potter’s options desperately depleted.

THE PREDICTION

Whilst Chelsea may be coming off the back of a much-needed victory, they face a Liverpool side who will be determined to send a message on their home ground after last weekend’s humiliation. Winning away at Wolves in their mid-week FA Cup third round replay was morale boosting, but three points here could prove a big springboard for them to really kick on. There may well be a few nerves on both sides when factoring in current form, but the Anfield factor cannot be underestimated and it’s matches like this where the Liverpool home crowd really comes to the fore. Against a Chelsea team who have flattered to deceive for a long time now, backing Liverpool to win has to be favoured at Anfield.

TIP: LIVERPOOL TO WIN
