THE LOWDOWN

LEICESTER

  • Leicester’s 2-1 defeat at Brighton means that the Foxes have now lost three of their last four Premier League games and have not started the 2021-22 campaign at the level expected of them by many.
  • With defenders Wesley Fofana and James Justin the only absentees here, the Foxes have a number of options available in terms of team selection, with the likes of Jonny Evans, Timothy Castagne, Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho all players pushing for a place in the starting line-up, the latter two both scoring in Leicester’s 0-2 win over Millwall in the League Cup midweek.

BURNLEY

  • Burnley’s 4-1 victory over League Two side Rochdale in the League Cup this past Tuesday night provided a welcome distraction from their Premier League woes that have seen the Clarets pick up just a single point from their opening five games.
  • New signing Maxwell Cornet has yet to start for Burnley in the Premier League and when taking into account their poor start to the season, manager Sean Dyche could throw him into the team here, whilst Jay Rodriguez could well come into the side after scoring all four of Burnley’s goals against Rochdale.

THE PREDICTION

Matches between these two sides are normally entertaining affairs and a similar encounter is expected here with both teams desperately needing a victory for different reasons. Whilst Leicester are looking at moving up the table towards the European places, Burnley want to get out of the dreaded relegation zone and for that reason won’t be afraid to take the fight to the Foxes with their direct style of play that looks to utilise their two strikers at every opportunity. However, with the plethora of options available to Leicester going forward, it is difficult to see the Burnley defence managing to keep what would be their first Premier League clean sheet of the season. Both teams have scored in each of the last four fixtures between Leicester and Burnley and it would be no surprise to see the same outcome here. However, in terms of the actual match result, Leicester with home advantage in their favour are expected to bounce back from successive league defeats with victory over the Clarets.

Tip: LEICESTER TO WIN
