THE LOWDOWN

EVERTON

  • One win in 13 Premier League games is a damning statistic and ultimately saw Rafael Benitez sacked as Everton manager last weekend following the Toffees’ 2-1 defeat at the hands of lowly Norwich.
  • Duncan Ferguson will step in as interim manager for the second time in his career and will be unable to call upon Allan, Tom Davies, Fabian Delph and Alex Iwobi, the latter whom is currently on international duty.

ASTON VILLA

  • Aston Villa fans will have been delighted by their side’s never say die attitude against Man Utd last Saturday, as Steven Gerrard’s men rallied from 0-2 down to fight back and grab a point, Philippe Coutinho scoring the equalising goal off the bench on his debut.
  • Central defender Ezri Konsa was forced off in that match through a hip injury and will be hoping he recovers in time to start against Everton, although Gerrard will welcome midfielder John McGinn back following his one-game suspension.

THE TEAM NEWS

EVERTON

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Pickford; Coleman, Godfrey, Mina, Mykolenko; Gordon, Doucoure, Andre Gomes, Gray; Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin

UNAVAILABLE: Delph (Fitness), Allan (Illness), Davies (Injured), Iwobi (International duty)

QUESTIONABLE: Branthwaite (Injured)

ASTON VILLA

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne; McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Ramsey; Watkins, Ings, Coutinho

UNAVAILABLE: Bailey (Injured), Nakamba (Injured), Traore (Injured), Trezeguet (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Konsa (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

It would be no surprise if the Toffees come out firing at Goodison Park under the command of Ferguson, who has proven a successful interim boss for Everton in the past and the extra spice of both Lucas Digne and Coutinho returning to the blue half of Merseyside will give this match an edge. However, Aston Villa have shown themselves to be a strong resilient outfit under Gerrard and the class of Coutinho has already made a huge impact. Provided they aren’t overawed by the occasion, then the visitors are more than capable of picking up at least a point from this one, if not all three against an opponent who have accrued just six points from the last 39 available to them. Therefore, back Aston Villa to do just that via the double chance market.

Tip: ASTON VILLA WIN/DRAW DOUBLE CHANCE
