THE LOWDOWN

CRYSTAL PALACE

  • Despite the absence of Wilfried Zaha through suspension last time out, Crystal Palace had no problems blowing rock bottom Norwich away in a three-goal first-half blitz, meaning they have now picked up seven points from their last three home Premier League games.
  • Boss Patrick Viera is not expected to return to the dugout for this match despite the possibility of him being there not being ruled out, although Zaha should return to the starting line-up, but midfielder Conor Gallagher missed out against Norwich and is doubtful again here with assistant manager Osian Roberts remaining coy on his availability.

WEST HAM

  • It was looking worrying for West Ham for a short period of time in midweek after they went behind away at Watford, but the Hammers bounced back emphatically, winning 1-4 even without skipper Declan Rice through suspension.
  • Rice will no doubt come straight back into the starting XI here replacing Mark Noble, whilst David Moyes will need to monitor the fitness of key players Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen, who have each played every minute during the packed Christmas schedule.

THE PREDICTION

Both teams enter this local derby in confident mood and a feisty affair is expected with each not afraid to take the fight to the opposition. Each of West Ham’s last two league matches have seen over 2.5 goals scored, with the same outcome occurring in Crystal Palace’s most recent four fixtures. When considering that both sides are expected to be missing first-choice defenders, attack is likely to rule the roost here as the two London-based clubs search for the three points. Crystal Palace boasts home advantage, whilst a West Ham win keeps them inside the top five so neither will want to settle for draw. Therefore, backing over 2.5 goals to be scored again at Selhurst Park has to be favoured.

Tip: OVER 2.5 GOALS
