THE LOWDOWN

BURNLEY

  • Burnley’s recent upturn in results came to a shuddering halt in midweek as they were beaten 0-2 at home to Leicester, costing them the chance to move out of the bottom three at Everton’s expense.
  • Centre-back Bee Mee was forced off against the Foxes through injury and faces a late fitness test ahead of this one, whilst fellow defender Erik Pieters and midfielders Dale Stephens and Johann Berg Gudmundsson will definitely miss out.

CHELSEA

  • Chelsea bounced back well from their Carabao Cup final penalty heartbreak last Sunday, by beating Championship Luton in the FA Cup, but now turn their attentions to Premier League action for the first time since February 19th.
  • Thomas Tuchel some injury problems to deal with in defence with Cesar Azpilicueta not ready in time and Andreas Christensen not pictured in training, but Reece James could be in line for his first start following a lengthy layoff after successive appearances off the bench.

THE TEAM NEWS

CHELSEA

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Mendy; Chalobah, Thiago Silva, Rudiger; James, Kante, Kovacic, Alonso; Mount, Pulisic; Havertz

THE PREDICTION

Whilst these two sides sit at the opposite ends of the Premier League table, neither are known for their goalscoring exploits and clear-cut chances are expected to be at a premium here. Chelsea will know that they have to defend well aerially, as Burnley look to target imposing striker Wout Weghorst but the Clarets showed their vulnerability against pace late on when a fresh Jamie Vardy exploited their tired defence in midweek and it would be no surprise if Chelsea imposed a similar strategy here with plenty of attacking options in reserve should the starting XI fail to breach the Burnley backline. Ultimately, Chelsea should have enough quality going forward to edge this encounter over 90 minutes but backing a low scoring affair should still be favoured.

Tip: CHELSEA TO WIN UNDER 2.5 GOALS
