THE LOWDOWN

BRIGHTON

  • Despite having not won in their last five Premier League games, Brighton continue to earn plaudits for their performances, most recently securing a deserved 2-2 draw away at Liverpool.
  • After fielding four defenders against the Reds, Brighton may revert to a three-pronged central defence with wing-backs for this match, whilst midfielder Stephen Alzate and striker Danny Welbeck are both set to miss out again here through injury although defender Dan Burn could recover in time from a knee injury and faces a late fitness test.

NEWCASTLE

  • Managerless Newcastle held on for 65 minutes against Chelsea at St. James’ Park, but ultimately caved in and fell to a three-goal defeat, leaving them still without a win in this season’s Premier League.
  • Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is fit to return to the fold for the Magpies and a big decision will need to be made on whether the Slovakian comes straight into the side, or current first-choice stopper Karl Darlow retains the gloves.

THE PREDICTION

Brighton have a golden opportunity here to end their recent winless run, which in mitigation has seen them lose just once against Premier League high-flyers Man City. Graham Potter boasts a far superior squad to that of Newcastle and the Seagulls face a side aimless in terms of direction and desperately low on confidence. It’s very difficult to see the visitors fashioning many attacking opportunities with Brighton expected to dominate possession and dictate the tempo of the contest and should Potter’s men not prove wasteful in front of goal, then they should have enough quality both individually and as a unit to see this game out and secure the three points.

Tip: BRIGHTON TO WIN
