We look set to be coming to the end of the Roberto De Zerbi era at Brighton and Hove Albion but the Italian is going out of the AMEX Stadium with a bit of a whimper. After touting himself for some of the top jobs expected to be on offer across Europe this summer, it could be fairly argued the eye has well and truly come off the ball down on the south coast.
Now sitting in the bottom-half of the Premier League table, Brighton suffered a 3-0 hammering at the hands of AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium last weekend. They have managed just two wins in 12 matches across all competitions with one being a slender defeat of Nottingham Forest and the other a consolation victory in a 4-1 aggregate defeat to Roma in the UEFA Europa League.
ASTON VILLA
On Thursday, Aston Villa supporters experienced a mixed evening. Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge means that Spurs now have just one game-in-hand and are seven points behind Villa so a top four spot and UEFA Champions League qualification now seems nearly assured for Unai Emery’s men.
However, as they chase a trophy, they suffered a 4-2 defeat at home to an Olympiakos in what was a thriller of a UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final first-leg. Ayoub El Kaabi notched an early brace before Ollie Watkins pulled one back before half-time. Moussa Diaby levelled things but El Kaabi completed his hat-trick with a penalty before Santiago Hezze’s strike later on.

Roberto De Zerbi has been dealt yet another injury blow with former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana now joining their lengthy injury list which includes several other first-teamers.
The likes of Pervis Estupinan, Solly March and Kaoru Mitoma are all expected to miss the rest of this season whilst there is no timeframe on the return of James Milner, Tariq Lamptey and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Nicolo Zaniolo returned to action in that defeat to the Greek giants, whilst the likes of Tyrone Mings, Boubacar Kamara and Jacob Ramsey are all long-term absentees for the Villains.

THE PREDICTION
There will be a want and a desire to finish the season with a bit of a flourish for Brighton and Hove Albion but there just appears no real sign of that coming. The Seagulls have been dealt several serious injury blows throughout the campaign. Aston Villa travel to the south coast likely to rotate with the pressure on their top four spot eased and concentration perhaps on their trip to Piraeus next week against Olympiakos. Given those factors, as well as their home advantage, siding with out of form Brighton might well provide half-decent value.
