THE LOWDOWN

ARSENAL

  • Arsenal come into this match on the back of five straight wins in all competitions and having not lost at home since all the way back in August, but face by far their toughest challenge yet against table toppers Man City
  • Central defender Ben White is expected to continue deputising for Takehiro Tomiyasu at right-back due to the Japanese international’s recent bout of Covid-19, however the Gunners should remain unchanged from their 0-5 victory over Norwich last time out, although manager Mikel Arteta will be absent from the dugout after he himself tested positive for Covid-19.

MAN CITY

  • Man City had to settle for just one goal last time out against Brentford, but it was enough to secure their ninth successive Premier League victory and open up a gap of eight points between them and the chasing pack at the top of the table.
  • Midfield enforcer Rodri remains missing through Covid-19 and after being afforded a rest on Wednesday, attacking wideman Raheem Sterling is expected to return to the starting line-up against a side he has been afforded much joy against in the past.

THE TEAM NEWS

MAN CITY

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo; De Bruyne Fernandinho, Gundogan; Bernardo Silva, Jesus, Sterling

UNAVAILABLE: Delap (Injured), Rodri (Isolating)

THE PREDICTION

Last time these two teams collied in the Premier League, Man City emerged 5-0 winners in what is becoming a worryingly familiar pattern for the Gunners. They have now lost their last nine Premier League fixtures against Pep Guardiola’s side in a run that stretches back to November 2017. The experience and sheer class of the reigning champions going forward has always proved much too strong for Arsenal and whilst this is expected to be a closer contest than you would usually expect when taking into account the hosts’ excellent recent form, Man City should still wind up far too strong and ultimately triumph in North London.

Tip: MAN CITY TO WIN
