THE LOWDOWN
ASTON VILLA
- Aston Villa slumped to a surprise 3-2 defeat on the opening weekend of the season at the hands of newly promoted Watford at Vicarage Road in their first match without Jack Grealish, although new striker Danny Ings got on the scoresheet on his debut thanks to a late penalty.
- Forward Ollie Watkins being unavailable was no doubt a big blow for Villa and has once more been ruled out for this one, while midfielder Douglas Luiz is potentially set to make his first start of the season following international duty in the summer.
NEWCASTLE
- Despite taking the lead of two separate occasions, Newcastle ultimately capitulated against West Ham, losing 2-4 at St. James Park with their defence letting them down hugely.
- The Magpies will be desperate to have captain Jamal Lascelles fully fit and after appearing on the bench last weekend, the centre-back should be fit to start here after a week of training.

THE PREDICTION
Aston Villa may have been caught off guard by Watford last weekend and a significant defensive improvement is expected from the hosts, although they must be aware of the attacking prowess Newcastle pose through the likes of Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin. However, a full crowd at Villa Park will provide a huge boost to the home side and, despite some injuries in their attacking ranks, they are nevertheless capable of exposing a fragile Newcastle backline so a Villa victory is the prediction.
