THE PREDICTION

The absence of striker Danny Ings was keenly felt by Southampton away at Fulham on Boxing Day, as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men failed to find the net and were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw without their key up top. The Saints weren’t without their chances however, hitting the woodwork and having two goals disallowed for offside, one following VAR’s intervention. This will give them confidence should they be without Ings again for the visit of West Ham to St Mary’s. The Hammers were disappointed themselves last time out, drawing 2-2 after needing from come from behind twice against lowly Brighton. A close game appears in prospect, but Southampton will be well aware of their wretched record against their opponents, having lost their last five Premier League matches vs West Ham. Such a record could have a psychological impact on the Saints and with Ings not expected to recover from injury in time to feature in this one, the visitors double chance may prove the smart play here.
