After a slow start to last season, Cardiff picked up significantly following the appointment of Mick McCarthy as manager, ultimately finishing in eighth-place. Barnsley meanwhile, enjoyed an incredible campaign which saw them secure a totally unexpected playoff place, although their promotion dream was ended by Swansea City over two legs.
