THE PREDICTION
Heracles come into this game with a solid home record behind them. In their four home games, they have collected seven of their nine points this season. This includes a point against PSV and a 4-1 hammering of Utrecht in their previous home game prior to the international break. They come up against an AZ team that will be very satisfied with their 0-0 draw in midweek with Real Sociedad to keep them in strong contention in arguably one of the strongest, if not the strongest, Europa League group with Napoli as well as La Liga’s leaders. This result comes after three Eredivisie wins on the bounce in which AZ haven’t conceded a goal. They remain unbeaten domestically but those three wins are their only wins after a poor yet remarkable start of five draws in a row; 1-1, 3-3, 4-4, 2-2, 2-2. The fact that sequence has then been followed up by three clean sheets is even more remarkable. The Europa League hangover replied has potentially applied to AZ earlier in the season. Following a famous 1-0 victory in Naples, they then went on to disappointingly draw 2-2 at lowly Den Haag. Since then, though, they’ve won both post-UEL matches 3-0. Heracles’ home form will give the home side enough confidence to believe they can add to AZ’s accumulation of draws and, after that effort in midweek, it seems quite realistic.
