THE PREDICTION
Union Saint-Gilloise were comfortable second division champions last season, finishing 18 points above RFC Seraing who also join them in the Belgian Pro League this year via the play-off. If Beerschot’s incredible run to an eventual ninth position can be emulated at all by the newly promoted side it remains to be seen but it is unlikely to be a happy first outing away to Anderlecht, one of the toughest places to collect points last season. The home side finished the regular season very strongly indeed back in April before falling away poorly in the Championship round but they lost only once twice at home in the league all season. Manager Vincent Kompany will be hoping for a better consistency overall this time around and an opening match against a newly promoted side at the fortress that is Lotto Park looks like a welcome win to kick off the new campaign.
