THE PREDICTION
Montreal come into the 2021 season on the back of a disappointing 2020 in which they finished ninth in the western conference. The resignation of Thierry Henry in February has led to the appointment of Wilfried Nancy; his first managerial post. They have lost Rod Fanni, Bojan and Jukka Raitala over the winter and only been able to focus on bringing in loans. The most intriguing loan would be Lassi Lapalainen from Bologna; the Finnish forward has managed nine in his 24 Montreal games previously on loan so his signing could be crucial. They start the season against a Toronto franchise that have also dealt with the resignation. Greg Vanney departed in December and has been replaced by Chris Armas. Armas has previously led the New York Red Bulls to a Supporters’ Shield in 2018. There hasn’t been much player upheaval with no new signings from outside of the franchise and only Pablo Piatti moving on. Laurent Ciman has retired whilst Tony Gallacher’s loan from Liverpool has ended. Given that this is a similar squad that managed to finish second in the eastern conference last season, they will fancy their chances of getting off to a good start in 2021 by defeating Montreal.
