THE PREDICTION
The Whitecaps made it out of the group by the slimmest of margins and they put in a much-improved defensive display in their 2-0 win over Chicago Fire last time out. That defence will again need to stand strong against this Sporting KC side as only two teams – Columbus Crew and LAFC – scored more goals in the group stage than Peter Vermes’ men. A second successive shutout does seem unlikely for Vancouver though, as they shipped seven goals in their first two matches with no side still remaining in the competition boasting a worse record. With those factors in mind, it seems likely that Sporting KC will open the scoring here.
