MOROCCO VS CROATIA
One look at Morocco’s potential starting XI tells you that they are capable of getting out of the group stage in 2022 with a number of players operating at an extremely high level such as Paris Saint-Germain’s Hakimi and Sevilla duo Bounou and En-Nesyri. However, this Croatia team are a force at major international tournaments and have proven time and time again that they know what it takes to win on the big stage. Dalic’s side are expected to control the majority of play with their midfield three led by Modric pulling the strings, which should allow them to dominate possession. With that in mind, Croatia should create enough chances to get the better of Morocco, although the margin of victory may well be a narrow one.

GERMANY VS JAPAN
Following successive major tournament failures for Germany at both the 2018 FIFA World Cup and more recently EURO 2022, they cannot afford a similar fate in Qatar. Under the command of Flick, strong start to the group stage is expected from Die Mannschaft and Japan will have their work cut to contain them. When assessing both squads, Germany contain significantly more strength-in-depth and individual quality across the pitch compared to their opponents. Therefore, they are well worth backing to open their 2022 World Cup campaign with victory here over Japan.

SPAIN VS COSTA RICA
Spain have a good chance of advancing to the final stages of this tournament but will want to get off to a strong start as they take on Costa Rica. They have lost just one of their last 11 matches in all competitions and while the Costa Ricans can top that record with one defeat in 13, the Spaniards have faced a higher level of opposition during their respective runs. Costa Rica are likely to try and nullify Spain but that will be to their detriment going forward and with that in mind, the Spaniards should be able to prevail without conceding in this one.

BELGIUM VS CANADA
Belgium did a good job in the last FIFA World Cup but suffered heartbreak in the semi-finals as they lost out to eventual champions France. They will hope to go at least one better here but they will need to be a lot better than they have produced over the last few years. Canada are capable of producing a shock or two under head coach John Herdman but this looks like a tough matchup for them and Belgium should have the quality to prevail.
