THE PREDICTION
Blackpool and Lincoln City clash at Wembley for a place in the Championship next season, a testament to the progress both clubs have made both on and off the pitch in recent years. The Tangerines came through a thrilling play-off semi-final with Oxford to make it to Wembley, scoring three times in both legs to win 6-3 on aggregate, whilst Lincoln showed their metal to overcome Sunderland 2-3 on aggregate despite losing the second leg 2-1. After going two goals behind away from home in front of ten thousand Sunderland fans, to come back and score what turned out to be the decisive goal says a lot as to the mental strength of Lincoln and their players.
Blackpool however, really do look a fantastic unit and Neil Critchley’s side are in excellent form, winning five of their last six games. Not forgetting of course that Blackpool have enjoyed the most success of team in the history of the play-offs, having been promoted five times via this route and are one of only two sides to have won the play-offs in all three EFL divisions. Lincoln are not to be underestimated and Michael Appleton’s young side will put up a strong fight here. However, Blackpool’s all-round squad strength led by the power and precision of Everton loanee Ellis Simms up front may just have the edge over the Imps, therefore the play-off specialists are to be favoured for victory and promotion once again via this dramatic route.
