Mamelodi Sundowns were one of the most impressive sides coming out of the CAF Champions League group stages, topping Group B with 13 points, four wins from six and ten goals scored, the second most of any side heading into the knockout stages. However, the one team above them on goals scored are their quarter-final opponents Al Ahly, who netted 11 times over the course of their six Group A games. Such potency in front of goal helped lead them to three wins and two draws from their six group matches, enough to see them qualify for the quarter-finals as runners-up with the highest number of points accrued of the four second-placed sides. When taking into account that both of these sides tend to prioritise attack over defence and that each will be well aware of how priceless a first leg lead could turn out to be, an entertaining encounter could be on the cards with a large number of clear-cut chances at either end of the field.
