Having begun the calendar year with a straight sets loss to Arthur Fery, Flavio Cobolli has recovered well to put himself in contention for a title. The Italian came through a surprisingly straightforward clash with Terence Atmane before a hard-fought three-set win against impressive qualifier Coleman Wong in the quarter-finals.
Sebastian Korda pulled off an upset in the last eight as he came from a set down to defeat the world number 12 Casper Ruud. Korda has beaten compatriot Alex Michelsen in straight sets before that as the American seeks a third ATP title after winning in Emilio-Romagna in 2021 and then Washington in 2024.
Korda appears to be in good form at the moment and the former world number 15 should make it awkward for Cobolli in a match that is expected to go quite long.
