The Canadian maintained his fine run of results with a 6-2 7-5 success over his compatriot Gabriel Diallo. 

The fifth seed will now battle Cilic for a sixth time after the veteran qualifier edged David Goffin 7-6 7-5. 

FAA trails 3-2 in the match-up with the Croatian but has won the last two, including a three-set triumph in Dubai this year. 

Cilic’s victories all came between 2019 and 2021 and he is no longer the same force.
