Andrey Rublev is one step away from a third final appearance in Hamburg with his sights firmly locked on a second title. 

The Russian impressed again as he held off Luciano Darderi’s comeback to win 6-1 3-6 6-3. 

The third seed will now lock horns with Felix Auger-Aliassime after the Canadian overcame blowing four match points in the second set to edge the in-form Alexandre Muller 7-6 6-7 6-3. 

Rublev completely owns the match-up 6-1 against FAA and has won the last four, including the title match on clay in Madrid last year.

The encounters are often close affairs and this one is likely to be tight too, although the Russian clearly has had the edge in the clutch moments and the fact Auger-Aliassime needed seven match points to take down Muller shows the sixth seed isn’t always so clinical.
