FPL Double Gameweek 29 – Captain Picks

Although this is being written before the conclusion of Double Gameweek 28, we can still provide an update on how our captain picks have performed. Despite a number of chances, Liverpool and FPL superstar Mo Salah (£13.2m) could not get himself onto the scoresheet in his side’s 1-0 win over West Ham and only managed 3 points as Jurgen Klopp brought the Egyptian off after 78 minutes amid a busy schedule. It was a similarly disappointing Saturday for those who captained either Raul Jimenez (£7.6m) or our differential selection James Ward-Prowse (£6.6m) as each blanked for Wolves and Southampton respectively. Both however, will get a second bite at the cherry with a second fixture on Thursday evening.

One player who did not let us down however, was Harry Kane (£12.3m). The Spurs striker was at his destructive best against Everton, getting on the scoresheet twice in a 5-0 thrashing of the Toffees. This was enough to see him pick up 13 FPL points, his joint-highest score of the season so far which certainly bodes well for the following Double Gameweek.

On that note, let’s turn our attention to Double Gameweek 29, another potentially lucrative round of fixtures with a number of teams and key FPL assets boasting two fixtures in which to gain points for their respective ownership. We round up the more enticing captaincy options with three premium selections, alongside a differential pick ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 deadline.

PREMIUM OPTIONS

Harry Kane (£12.3m) vs MUN (a), BRI (a)

Although he has not had the season he would have hoped for back in August, Harry Kane is well and truly making up for lost time now, his brace against Everton making it five goals in his last four Premier League fixtures. Those FPL managers brave enough to splash out on the Spurs forward despite his premium price have benefitted with Kane having recorded double-figure point returns in each of the last three gameweeks (39 points in total).

With a double gameweek ahead of Kane, there is a huge case for making him your FPL skipper when considering his recent form despite both matches being played away from home. Spurs travel to Man Utd, where Kane scored twice last season in a 1-6 demolition job, before an away clash with an out-of-form Brighton just four days later, the same side Kane scored twice against when the two sides last clashed in the FA Cup. Antonio Conte has previously stated that even on one leg, Kane would play so rotation isn’t to be worried about here.

Mo Salah (£13.2m) vs BHA (a), ARS (a)

Kane isn’t the only premium asset who takes on Brighton in Double Gameweek 29, as Mo Salah also makes the trip to the South Coast with Liverpool, before finishing off the gameweek away at Arsenal. Salah’s last double gameweek saw him thrill his vast FPL ownership with an amazing total score of 28 FPL points following three goals and an assist across his two matches played. Those who triple captained Salah that week will have earned a mammoth 84 points.

Since then, the Liverpool attacker is coming off a blank against West Ham and will be determined to get back on the scoresheet against both Brighton and Arsenal. Comfortably the highest scoring FPL asset this season with 19 goals, 11 assists and 212 fantasy points to his name, it would take an extremely gutsy FPL manager not to captain Salah, even when factoring in the form of Kane or our third premium option below.

Heung-Min Son (£10.8m) vs MUN (a), BRI (a)

Kane isn’t the only Spurs asset worthy of the armband in Double Gameweek 29. Heung-Min Son (£10.8m) has also found some serious form and the midfielder is more than capable of a huge FPL score himself provided he can continue his recent attacking returns in the Premier League. Son has picked up 28 FPL points over the course of the last three gameweeks after gaining two assists and two goals over the period.

Son also played a significant part in Spurs’ 1-6 mauling of Man Utd at Old Trafford last season, scoring twice with a further assist and with the Red Devils on the back of a 4-1 mauling away at Man City, it would be no surprise if Son was to pile on the misery. Combine that with a fixture against a Brighton side yet to keep a clean sheet this calendar year and those who captain Son will be highly expectant of a big haul.

DIFFERENTIAL OPTION

Sadio Mane (£11.7m) vs BHA (a), ARS (a)

A criminally low ownership when taking into account his current form makes Sadio Mane (£11.7m) one of the most exciting differential options of the season so far with an attractive Double Gameweek 29 falling under his domain. Fielded either centrally or out wide as part of Liverpool’s front three, Mane has taken his game up a notch across the last two gameweeks in which he has been a part of. Double Gameweek 26 saw the AFCON winner rack up three goals, an assist and 26 FPL points and since then, Mane scored the winning goal for Jurgen Klopp’s side in their 1-0 win over West Ham last weekend.

Mane has outscored Salah from a fantasy perspective across the last two gameweeks in which they have featured. So, whilst the vast majority of FPL managers are still expected to plump for Salah as captain, teammate Mane can be just as destructive and with less of 4% of managers boasting the Senegalese star among their squad, he has the potential to prove a massive differential.
