Fabian Marozsan has shone at times over the past six weeks or so. He made his first semi-final in well over a year at the BMW Open but lost out to world number three and eventual winner Alexander Zverev. He lost in the first-round of Madrid but performed admirably in Rome, beating Brazilian prodigy Joao Fonseca and Andrey Rublev in his first two rounds but losing a close match against Jakub Mensik.
Luca Nardi has struggled for form all season. He has failed to go far in any main tour level events, with his best finish being the quarter-finals of the Estoril Open on the Challenger Tour. They’ve not played on clay before, but Marozsan easily won their previous encounter in Hangzhou last year, defeating Nardi 6-0 6-2.
Marozsan is in the better form of the two and his varied and polished approach, along with the use of his fine drop shot, makes him the favourite to get past Nardi and reach the second-round of Roland Garros for a second successive year.
