It's been a real breakthrough year for Eva Lys, who reached a career-high ranking of 59 in May, and currently sits only two below that number.
The German number one began 2025 with an excellent run to the fourth round at the Australian Open, although her recent grass-court showings speak of a player still adapting to the surface; she was a first-round loser in Berlin and didn't make it out of the qualifiers at the Bad Homburg Open.
26-year-old opponent Yue Yuan is aiming to win a match at Wimbledon for the first time in her career after losing in the first round on her previous three main draw appearances. There have been some positive signs recently though, as she reached the quarter-finals in Rosmalen and pushed number one seed Hailey Baptiste close in Eastbourne.
