Eva Lys comes into Seoul after reaching the second-round in Sao Paulo last week. The German needed three sets to beat Gabriela Ce 6-1 5-7 7-5 before losing in straight sets to Nada Podoroska. Before that, Lys progressed to the second-round of the US Open, opening with a 6-3 6-3 victory over qualifier Gabriela Knutson, but then losing to fifth seed Mirra Andreeva. Lys has struggled with form and injury this season and is in danger of dropping outside the top 100. She has also failed to win back-to-back matches in 2026.

Elena-Gabriela Ruse has not competed since the US Open, where she was handed a difficult first-round draw against world number three Jessica Pegula. The Romanian lost 6-3 6-2 in 83 minutes, with Pegula, creating 17 break point opportunities. Ruse will hope for a stronger run at this tournament as the fourth seed.
